Blackpool Illuminated Bollards...

Blackpool Illuminated Bollards...

Simply Wonderful...

Blackpool is noted for its seafront illuminations but who would have thought that these would extend to the humble pavement bollard !

Thank you once again to @microwavedrama on the twitter for these excellent photographs and observations skills.

If you are thinking of visiting Blackpool maybe you to could go in search of the Blackpool Illuminated Bollards.

Blackpool Bollard with Sign Post...

Wonderful...

We are on Clifton Street, Blackpool where @microwavedrame on the twitter observed this very original use for a bollard.

The bollard in question appears to have a sign post attached or placed within the column. What a novel use for two pieces of street furniture and managing to reduce clutter at the same time. If we take a close look at the bollard we see clearly it has a good solid base which rises but quickly tapers to a more narrow sized column/body. I do find it odd even funny seeing a fire hydrant sign so far up a sign post ?

This is an excellent picture/photograph and certainly places Blackpool on the map of bollards.

What a Norwich Bollard...

What a bollard and what a face upon the top.

Can I thank @kenhurst on the twitter for sending me this wonderful picture. The work that has gone into this piece of street furniture is simply amazing just look at the actual column/body of the bollard and then admire the bollard top.

Oliver's Battery, Winchester...

Oliver's Battery Bollards...
Oliver's Battery named after a possible site where a battle may have taken place at the time of the English Civil War.

Having looked at the local parish council website http://www.bfobrca.com they're unable to confirm story regarding Oliver Cromwell and cast doubt upon it. On a much happier note I'm pleased to say thank you to @sa_man_ta_B on the twitter for this trio of bollards and the accompanying knitwear, don't they look rather dandy and fall into the category of bollards and the urban knitting revolution that appears to have spread into the countryside just like the English Civil War.

It's a Knock Out...

Odd Bollard...

We are by a boxing gym in Sydney Street, Sheffield where the @bathcat on the twitter has found a very unusual looking mini stone bollard.

If we take a look at the picture (above) we see the bollard in a very odd position which brings me to the only logical conclusion that I can think of and that is the gates where much larger to the area/site now used by the boxing gym and the brick column to the right of the bollard and the left of the gate is in fact a recent addition.

If there happens to be anybody out there who knows better please do get in touch and let me know.

Taking a closer look at the mini stone bollard (below) I must say isn't it rather cute looking sitting surrounded by red industrial looking brickwork. The contrast of the stone mini bollard red-ish looking bricks with dark smooth tarmac separated by weeds just screams at you.

Now you may have noticed the image on the right hand side of this blog/site which just so happens to be the official logo of our monarchs diamond jubilee please do take the opportunity to click on the image and it'll direct you within a second or two to the official website where details of all the jubilee celebrations can be found. Closer to the time we will feature a number of Royal bollards that I've found around London and maybe you've seen around Britain and the UK.

A closer look...

Seahouses, Northumberland...

Spot the bollard...

Take a close look at the picture (above/below) and you might notice at first glance the bollard to the left of the old table that just happens to have a circular base with a slightly tapering column that is finished off with a semi-circular/cannon ball top.

The main body of the bollard has three rings/ridges around its body and upon the front (facing outwards) we can see the bollard contains an anchor sign/marking. We are close to the sea and the anchor sign/emblem is an acknowledgement of that fact.

Bollards have a naval/nautical history and I'm not just referring to cannons/guns but also to the 'bollard-pull' test/measurement of tugs and the simple use of a bollard to tie/moor a boat/ship to using rope.

With anchor...

Thank you to @putting_gott on the twitter for this excellent example of a bollard up north by the sea/coast.

Orgreave Coking Plant Bollards...

Bollards with a connection to an industrial past/dispute...
Orgreave Coking Plant which certainly isn't noted for its bollards but remembered for one of the largest pickets mounted by the National Union of Mineworkers led by Arthur Scargill in 1984.

The three steel bollards stand on a path amongst green foliage and rather large stone/granite blocks. Hard to believe that close by back in 1984 this was a site of a major industrial dispute. Take a look at this link from the BBC Miners strike 1984 Orgreave coking plant and can I thank once again the @bathcat on twitter for this beautiful historical picture.
